There are three pieces of scripture that I’ve read with my
own eyes that say that God’s got his eye on me. In tough times and in plenty, I
refer back to them to remind myself that even the smallest events are a part of
His plan for me. In Matthew, Jesus teaches that God’s in control of it all thru
the parable of the sparrows. In Psalms, I read that He for reals “knit me in my
mother’s womb.” Then, in Jeremiah, He tells me (each of us, really) that He’s
got a plan for me, it’s good, and He knows
it already. I can’t even get a lunch plan for today together and it’s
almost one! The idea that these Biblical truths apply to every creature
(sparrow) and every person (even before they’re born!) is a real mind-blower,
and it’s definitely too far reaching for me to ponder…
I am not a person who gets wrapped around the axle to find
meaning in everything, though. While I don’t think that there are coincidences,
I know my limits. I get excited when I think I may have caught a glimpse of the
Plan in hindsight, or when I think a prayer has been answered. But, for
example, when I get diarrhea, I don’t ask what I’m being punished for. When I
try to order an Egg McMuffin without meat and they put meat on it anyway, I
don’t think, “What does this meeeeeaaaaan?!”
“Whyyyyy did that mosquito bite me?!”
“Whyyyy did my dog pee on my gym bag?!”
HOWEVER, sometimes God sets up a billboard for those who
need it and I’m so grateful! Prayer is a very weak point for me because despite
that I know how important it is, I still ‘forget’ to do it. One reason that it
gets my undies in a bunch is because I never forget to go to the gym. I never
forget to get dressed, or eat dessert. At any rate, I’ve thought (though I should’ve
prayed!) more than once that I wish I
just had a cue….a reminder to pray every day.
I don’t read into gastro upsets, breakfast sandwiches, or my
dog’s poor choices/substrate preferences. BUT, I know a reminder to pray when
it’s this obvious. This guy’s been camped right outside my door every day when
I leave for work, and each day when I return. Hopefully, by the time he moves
on, I’ll have a solid routine. Thanks, Big G, for your attention to detail.
